Ann McMikel
Executive Director, Shared Interest
Ann M. McMikel was recently appointed as the Executive Director of Shared Interest in May 2021. Ann is a global leader with extensive experience in nonprofit management, strategic planning, advocacy, communications, volunteer engagement, and fundraising.

Ann’s global leadership was honed over the 16 years she served at American Cancer Society, where she held the first-ever role of VP, Global Partnerships and Planning. While at ACS, Ann helped to establish and implement a global program that focused on women’s cancer, pain control, tobacco control, and civil society capacity building in low- and middle-income countries. Ann has successfully managed high-level global relationships with multilateral organizations to make cancer and other noncommunicable diseases a global health and development priority, including partnerships with the World Health Organization, UN agencies, the corporate sector and a broad range of civil society organizations in the developing world, including Africa, Latin America and India.

Prior to joining Shared Interest, Ann served as the inaugural Chief Development Officer/Executive Director of SIS Circles for the Black Women’s Health Imperative, where she led and oversaw the fundraising strategy and donor engagement plans that resulted in a three-fold increase in income for BWHI’s programs and priorities over the two years she was there. While at BWHI, Ann also served in a dual role as
Executive Director, SIS Circles where she oversaw a social/emotional empowerment program for more than 150 Atlanta-based teen girls of color to become tomorrow’s resilient, health-conscious professional leaders. Prior to BWHI, Ann served as the founding Executive Director of Step Up in Atlanta, GA where she was responsible for implementing Step Up's mission to mobilize resources and oversea a program team to
propel more than 150 teen girls from under-resourced communities to fulfill their potential.
Ann is a passionate grassroots advocate for women's health, education, gender equality and economic empowerment, which are essential drivers for establishing more stable and just societies locally, nationally and globally.

Ann is a proud first-generation college graduate and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Spelman College and a Master’s degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Ann is married with two teenage sons.
